OC to Las Vegas (Monday 3rd Sept)

Got up at 7am, got dressed & headed to the bus terminal.  Finally found the Lux Bus terminal, checked in, said bye & thanks to G and then got in line to get on the bus for the trip to Las Vegas.  We headed off at about 9.15am and I had a window seat (Yay!) so was able to take some photos of the countryside.  We made a toilet & food stop at Barstow, then it was back on the road to Las Vegas.  I was most surprised when I heard the guy sitting next to me talk & didn't hear an accent - he was from Christchurch, New Zealand!!  He & his wife were on a 3 week vacation and were spending 4 days in Las Vegas.  Small world.  LOL

On the freeway/motorway leaving Los Angeles
Somewhere between LA & Las Vegas, but still in the State of California
At the rest stop at Barstow (which is in California) - truck trailers not being driven on the road but being transported by train.
View out the front window of the bus as we near Las Vegas.
No idea what these are - 3 towers in the middle of nowhere.
Heading into Las Vegas. Don't know when we crossed the State Line, didn't see any signs.

We arrived in Las Vegas about 1.30pm and were dropped off at Harrah's Hotel & Casino, which confused some of us coz from what the travel agents had told us we expected to be dropped off outside our respective hotels.  Anyway, it was far too hot to walk with luggage so I got a taxi to my hotel (NB: the 1st taxi I have taken since being here!!), and I am glad I did as it was quite a long way.  I arrived at the hotel (the Paris Las Vegas), marvelled at the entrance to my hotel, entered, went past some of the slot machines, found the check-in area & got in line to check in.  After getting my room card I headed up to my room which is on the 9th floor & at the end of the corridor, it takes me about 2 full minutes to walk to the end of the corridor!!  After putting my bags away & checking out my room I had a nap for an couple of hours.

View of my room from just inside the main door & beside the bathroom door.
View of room from beside the window.
Half of the bathroom - there was a shower & separate bath on the other side.
View from my room. Not very exciting but then I didn't plan on spending much time looking out the window of my room.  LOL
My room is at the end of this hallway, the very end of this hallway.

Tower outside my hotel (day shot). And yes, I know the top is chopped off, it wouldn't fit from where I was standing, even on the widest zoom.

One of the 'public' restrooms inside the hotel on the ground level. This is the womens of course, no idea what the mens restroom looked like.  LOL

When I woke up (about 4pm) I headed out onto Las Vegas Boulevard.  Oh me, oh my, what a place this is!!  I walked past Bally's (next door & kind of adjoins my hotel), Bill's Gambin' Hall & Saloon, the Flamingo, Imperial Palace (just over an hours walk) and went into Harrah's more to get out of the heat than anything else.  I had a look around & realising I hadn't really eaten all day I decided to visit their all-you-can-eat buffet.  I stuffed myself full of food - savoury & sweet - and then headed out onto Las Vegas Boulevard (aka The Strip) again (was about 7pm but not any cooler).  I headed up The Strip, passed Casino Royale & went into the Venetian.  Wow!!  What an amazing place.  And they really do have a canal with gondolas - altho the inside part was blocked off for maintenance so only the outside part was working.  By this time the sun was starting to go down & the lights were coming on.  Again, Wow!!  I then went across the street & somehow ended up inside Treasure Island.  Don't ask me how, this happened a few times, some of the hotels are linked by walkways and the walkways are the only way to get across a lot of parts of The Strip.  Anyway, since it was nice & cool I had a look around and then headed outside again.  I strolled past The Mirage, The Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace, then Caesar's Palace itself (which takes up about 2 blocks!!), in finding a way to cross the street I ended up inside the Bellagio (go figure) but didn't look around much as my feet were starting to hurt, so just made my way outside where the musical water fountains are, so watched those a couple of times.  They 'play' for about 3-4 minutes every 15 minutes, and to different music.  While watching those I saw some people gathered around a spot by the road so went over to investigate & saw a guy 'painting' with spray paint cans.  He had some already finished 'paintings' and they were really good.  So I had a talk to him & he did a couple of custom 'paintings' for me and I watched the water fountains a few more times until they were done & dry.  Luckily my hotel is across the road from the Bellagio so it was a short walk back to my hotel.  I got back to my room, took off my shoes & rubbed my poor feet then hopped into bed about midnight.

Now, one thing I have to note here - I took over 1000 photos over the week, after sorting thru them there are about 700 that I want to keep.  I will not be uploading all those to my blog, I will only upload a few of my most favourite photos, and some that relate specifically to something mentioned in my blog.
So, here are some photos from Monday's walk.
